D.E.L.E. has four levels: Certificado Inicial de Español (C.I.E.), Diploma Básico de Español (D.B.E.) and diploma Superior de Español (D.S.E.). The Ministry of Education and Culture annually establishes exam dates and fees, and they normally take place in mid-May (C.I.E. and D.B.E.) and mid-November (D.S.E.)
The course runs for 10 or 20 hours a week. Each day, during the first two hours, we study the possible grammatical problems and their practical application adapted to the different levels of language knowledge. In the next two hours we cover the subjects of specific aspects of the exam: specialised vocabulary, writing skills, oral expression, listening and reading comprehension, debates on current issues, etc. We also review previous year's exams and students will have mock exams to check the study progress of each student.
For the Initial, you must reach an Intermediate level, for the Basic you must have an Advanced level, and for the Superior you must be fluent in Spanish. If you have an Elementary level now, in three months you can prepare the Initial. If your level is Intermediate, you have a very good chance of passing the Basic in three months' time. And if you are Advanced, you will be able to pass the Superior after three months of preparation.
